My name is Rusydan, and I am a lecturer at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Maritim Indonesia (STIMI) in Indonesia. I also work as an expert staff member for the mayor of Ternate under the Ternate City Government, North Maluku, Indonesia. I am a PhD student in the Geography and The Environment program at the University of Alabama. I plan to focus my research on the new capital, Sofifi, in North Maluku, Indonesia. This research aims to examine the development of the new capital of North Maluku Province. Since 2010, the Indonesian government has issued ultimatums for the development of this new capital (Sofifi), yet sustainable progress has not been achieved. I am investigating the phenomena of spatial, social, and political segregation among the involved parties, including the provincial government of North Maluku and other stakeholders.
