Earth System Science

Little River CanyonOur research in earth system science is focused on understanding atmospheric, hydrological, ecological, and earth surface processes to improve our understanding of Earth as an integrated system and our ability to address environmental challenges. We work at multiple spatial and temporal scales and in a number of regions around the world.

Academic Programs

Students enrolled in our undergraduate programs can choose earth system science as an area of concentration, meaning that they will complete at least 12 hours of coursework in climatology, physical geography, ecology, and related fields.

Students enrolled in our graduate program, too, can choose to concentrate in earth system science. The concentration requires 12 hours of coursework from a list of designated courses.
